Safety is a top priority. During every phase of a SportQuest project, safety is given the highest emphasis. SportQuest staff members constantly monitor all travel advisories issued by the U.S. State Department and are in frequent communication with local contacts in each country. If at any time during the preparation process a country becomes unsafe, that project would be canceled and all affected participants would be given the opportunity to travel to another destination. If conditions were ever to become unsafe during the trip itself, the appropriate emergency protocol for that destination would be followed.
We cannot eliminate all risk, but we believe it is our responsibility to take every precaution and make sure our teams are aware of potential dangers. We also highly encourage athletes and parents to invite their home churches to cover our teams in prayer during the project. God is faithful, and in two decades of operation as a ministry, we can thankfully say that by God’s grace, we’ve never had a safety problem!

Your child will be able to call you the first day of his or her arrival in the destination country. We will give them at least one more time to call home about half way through the trip. Please understand that although we give them time to call, it is completely up to your child to call during those designated times. Email opportunities will be given to your child at least once or twice during each project week. Please do not expect to hear from your child every day. You can read project updates posted by SQ staff on our social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter primarily) as well as an occasional article on our blog (see Newsroom page on our website).
Regardless of what destination your child will attend...a normal day would include them having breakfast, morning devotions, camp and clinics preparations and planning, lunch, camp and clinics, dinner, evangelism project or building relationships with the youth and partnering church, possible evening competition, fun games night with youth...etc.. Tentative itineraries are provided several months prior to departure. You can view a Sample Itinerary here.
Fundraising is not as hard as most people think...more than 90% of the athletes who have traveled on an PWP Project have raised the full cost of their trip through support letters. Once you've been accepted for a PWP Project, SQ will send you a packet of fundraising materials and sample letters that will be very beneficial in the fundraising process. A SQ representative will also guide you through this process.
Every team is assigned 1-2 Project Leaders along with one male and female Assistant Leader. Leaders are responsible not just for daily activities but are also responsible for the safety and supervision of every athlete. Also the local church leaders are responsible for the well being of the athletes. During fun days and anytime athletes are outside of their housing facility, they are responsible to be in groups of 4 with a leader present within each group.
SQ leaders are very important to our summer projects as they lead and disciple a group of young athletes. SQ leaders have a committed relationship with Jesus, are coaches and teachers, are over 21 years of age, and have traveled on a PWP Project before. Their leadership and experience is of great value to our summer projects.
SportQuest Ministries is not affiliated with one specific denomination. Both our staff and the athletes who travel with us represent a wide background of church denominations, and our teams partner with many different churches in our project locations. SportQuest places a high priority on the local church and always seeks to partner with the local church in each community where we serve. For a statement of our beliefs, please click here.
All participants must be at least 15 years old by the time they arrive at their PWP Project.
Glad you asked! Please download our SQ Promo Toolkit and help us share the word. Ask us about how you can receive discounts just for sharing SportQuest with others. We also have a Refer-a-Friend program that will give you discounts for getting your friends signed up for a PWP Project.

High school students ages 15 and up are eligible to participate in one of our life-changing PWP Projects. You can contact our office for more details or simply CLICK HERE to navigate to that section of our website.

Yes. SportQuest Ministries is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and, therefore, all donations are tax-deductible. Tax receipts will be sent following your donation, but checks must be made out to SportQuest Ministries and cannot reference any individual in the memo line.
For each SportQuest missionary on the payroll, SportQuest must pay tax, workers compensation, and other administrative/accounting expenses. Therefore, 10% of every donation to international staff and 12% of every donation to U.S. staff will be set aside to cover these costs. Our desire is to keep these administrative costs as low as possible so as to maximize the impact of your donation on behalf of our staff.
The convenience fee covers the cost of third-party processing fees for online transactions and ensures that we receive 100% of the amount you intended to give or pay. This will allow your investment in our non-profit ministry to have a greater impact. You can make a payment or donation using another method if you prefer.
