Macey’s first SportQuest experience was in 2016 when she participated in the San Diego project. She and SQ staff member, Becky Bowden, hit it off immediately, and Becky began discipling her after that project. Initially, Macey was on fire for the Lord, but as time went on, she began to allow lies of insecurity about her weight and her body image cause her to spiral into a spiritual and physical downfall. However, the Lord helped her gain victory over these lies through the help of a supportive family, godly counsel, and a determination to overcome these struggles. The impact that SportQuest had on her life motivated her to participate again in the 2017 San Diego project, where she was able to boldly share her testimony with the youth and encourage so many who had similar struggles. Coming home after a SQ project, it can be tough to continue living missionally without the same support system that you are surrounded with on the SQ project. Despite the struggle, Macey has been on a mission to impact her volleyball team ever since returning from San Diego. She has identified several “people of peace” on her team and has been purposeful in her conversations with them. Recently, one of them accepted Christ, and they are now doing Discovery Bible Studies together! Macey is well-respected as a leader in her school and is now leading a Bible study just for athletes every other week. She has taken what she learned through her SportQuest experience and is now serving as a missionary in her school. This is what we call Playing With Purpose!
I am more spiritually mature, understanding, and compassionate because the SportQuest leaders, kids, and fellow athletes helped open my eyes. — Macey
